(Photograph – Amateur)

I am a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, primarily working in the sub-fields of environmental sociology and political ecology. I specifically focus on water policy issues in the American Southwest, such as desalination and conservation. Throughout my sociological work, I photograph as a means to engage with and explore the world.

This image of the Santa Cruz River was taken in August just after flows were diverted to allow for its restoration by the local water authority.

New Developments with River View

This image was taken in August 2019 in Phoenix, AZ as more luxury apartments were being build along the city’s canal system.

The central Arizona Project

Often, we see dramatic views of the Central Arizona project – one of the longest (336miles) human made canal systems in the American Southwest and borderlands region – visualizing the canal along new housing developments. But, we do not often see it from ground level, far from any human habitation.
