Bridges over water between Mexico and the United States

Water connects communities, ecosystems, institutions, and countries. On October 20–21, 2026, water professionals, experts, and organizations from Mexico and the United States will gather in Monterrey, Nuevo León, for Bridges over water between Mexico and the United States, a binational event focused on advancing cross border solutions through dialogue, collaboration, and shared knowledge to address common water challenges. 

Hosted at the Museo de Historia Mexicana Auditorium, the event will bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and institutions to exchange knowledge, build partnerships, and advance cross border solutions for the sustainable management of shared water resources.

The event is co–hosted by the Rosenberg International Forum on Water Policy and the Permanent Forum of Binational Waters, with  the collaboration of UC Alianza MX, the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy at the University of Arizona, El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, the California Institute for Water Resources, and UC Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Preliminary agenda

The two-day program will feature keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive conversations focused on the following topics::

  • The current and future of the Rio Grande/Río Bravo Basin.
  • Challenges and opportunities in the Colorado River Basin.
  • Binational water governance and cooperation.
  • Water policy and treaty implementation.
  • Local stakeholder engagement.
  • Risk management, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Lessons learned to strengthen long-term water security.
