Water Challenges tackled at the Mexico-US border
Binational Waters is a nonprofit, binational, and multidisciplinary institution of scientists and experts dedicated to improve water resiliency along the Mexico-US border region.
- Our mission is to improve water and environmental resilience of border communities through scientific research, communication, and education.
- Join our community of experts and committed citizens working toward the sustainable use of our shared water resources.
Our focus areas at binational scale
Rivers and aquifer basins do not recognize political boundaries. The Rio Grande, the Colorado River and other transboundary water systems connect communities in both countries.
The Permanent Forum of Binational Waters seeks to unite the efforts of scientists, policymakers, and citizens to address pressing water challenges.
We provide services designed to build social capacity and drive sustainable solutions for decision-makers:

Water as a Shared Resource: A Binational Challenge
Water challenges in the Mexico-US border region are a strategic priority for both countries. Population growth, climate change, and rising water demands are straining the capacity of our shared water systems.
Leading binational organizations and water management experts are already part of the effort—join them and help us secure a sustainable future.
As drought conditions worsen and associated risks become persistent, cooperation towards multidimensional actions is essential to protect our border communities. Help us fund innovative solutions and education programs that strengthen community resilience in the face of current and future challenges.
