Science Talks: Advances on the Water Systems Assessments at Binational Scale

March 20, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Water Systems Assessments

Join us for an insightful Science Talk on March 20, 2023, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. CT, exploring the latest advances in water systems assessments across the U.S.–Mexico border. This virtual session is part of World Water Week 2023 and is hosted by the Permanent Forum of Binational Waters.

Water challenges rarely stop at borders—and neither should solutions. This special event brings together experts from science, policy, and applied practice to share progress and innovation in cross-border water assessments.

Speakers:

  • Enrique Prunes, Rio Grande Manager and Freshwater Lead Specialist, WWF US

  • Jurgen Mahlknecht, Professor at TEC de Monterrey

  • Juan M. Huerta-Tolis, Director General, Juan M. Huerta Inc., Sarasota

Moderators:

  • Samuel Sandoval Solís, Associate Professor, UC Davis

  • Gabriela Rendon Herrera, Master’s Student in Ecology, UC Davis

Together, they will examine binational case studies, data sharing strategies, and integrated water resource evaluations that support long-term regional water resilience.

This Science Talk will highlight practical experiences, lessons learned, and future pathways for collaborative management of shared water systems. The conversation emphasizes the need for unified approaches in hydrological monitoring, watershed planning, and institutional cooperation.

This free, public event will be hosted on Zoom.

Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with leading experts and advance your understanding of water systems assessments at binational scale.
